Major Projects of 2014 National Social Science Fund (the second batch) was officially approved recently. Through the process of expert reviewing, publicizing, and National Philosophy and Social Science Planning Leader Group’s approval, the major project of “Research on the Development and Using of Mineral Resources from the Perspective of National Metal Resources Security” (14ZDB136) declared by the research group of Prof. Chang WANG in our school has stood out for approval.

Confronting the new situation of natural resource depletion, and the increasing of social stock of city mineral in the waste form, it is necessary to change national metal security strategy, and translate such a simple overall planning of the space as” two markets of both domestic and abroad” into the combination of overall planning of the space and the overall planning “two kinds resources of Primary Ore and City Mineral”. With the strategic target of improving national metal resource security capacity, centering on these two basic issues of how to understand the relations between the developing and using of city mineral and national metal resource security, how to make the most use of city mineral and improve national metal resource security capacity, starting from revealing the laws of developing and using city mineral, Prof. WANG’s project creates the material basis and market conditions for developing and using city mineral, and has a clear direction and point of developing and using city mineral. By meeting national conditions, taking advantage of synergy of market, government and society, optimizing the model of the development of city mineral, and building the policy system of operational development of two kinds of resources, this project aims to improve national metal resource security capacity. This research has great theoretical value and practical significance for national metal resource security protection and ecological civilization construction.
