The Debate of Business School Is Held Successfully
---“Building a Dream in Business School, Debating in Youth”
At 7:00, on December 6, a debate themed “Building a Dream in Business School, Debating in Youth” was held in Administration Building 409, which was sponsored by Academic Department of Youth League Committee of Business School, and co-organized by Debate Teams and Liaison Department of Youth League Committee of Business School. Dr. Lei Liang, a teacher of thinking and debating, Chen Wen, the Deputy Secretary of Youth League Committee of Business School, and Tan Minzhi, the counselor of freshmen attended this debate.
It is said that this debate has lasted for one and a half months. 32 members selected at auditions were divided into eight groups in accordance with their scores, and got to the quarter-finals, which adopted tutorial system at the beginning. After some rounds, there were four teams remained to get to the final four, namely, semifinals. In this round, a debate summary would be made by the first debaters of both sides. Four teams debated in pairs, and winners would be qualified for the finals. The second runner-up was selected in this round. A week before the debate, Academic Department held an activity themed “debate in class”, which took advantage of critical thinking class to hold debate, and was appreciated by teachers and students.
All seats were occupied in the finals. Everyone was looking forward to this debate. Before the debate, two teachers, whose name are Chen Wen and Lei Liang made their speeches. Chen Wen thought that, debate could not only temper one’s logical capability, and improve one’s debating skills, but also improve one’s confidence and teamwork ability. Lei Liang called for students to participate in such kind of contest as many as they can, and it was very important for students to form their own opinions by expressing themselves more.
Subsequently, the organizer presented some highlights of the debate during one and a half months. After watching this video, eight debaters gave their demonstration matches to us, which made atmosphere more active.
After the demonstration match, it came to the duel. Two teams entered the field. The members of proposition were: Zhou Shan, Zhao Yuanyuan, Lian Jie, Han Xinying. Their topic was “self-discipline can promote college students more.” Members of oppositions were Li Linyu, Huang Yuhang, Ding Xiaoshuang, Shang Kaiping, and their topic is “heteronomy can promote college students more.”The vigor and decent body languages of the third debate of proposition drew audience’s attention. The fierce debate made the atmosphere more active. In the rebuttal speech, the fourth debaters of both sides fought against rivals’ loopholes, and won them thunderous applauses. After judges made comments, public judges began to vote on the spot.
After workers tallied the results, and judges discussed with each other, the proposition was decided to be the champion, and the opposition was the runner-up. They also elected three outstanding debaters, whose names are: Xu Roumeizi, Li Yimeng, Li Jinzhan. Lei Liang issued certificates and prizes for them, and audience also clapped for debaters.
As an annual activity of Business School, the debate always touches every debater and audience. It is not only a debate between two sides, but also a knowledge banquet and brainstorm for audience. We hope students in Business School can make persistent efforts to hold the next debate more wonderfully.
