Professor Tan Jinsong from York University of Canada visited Business School for Academic Exchange

From September 4 to 5, Professor Tan Jinsong, tenured professor of Schulich Business School of York University of Canada, visited our school for academic exchange. A series of high-level reports and seminars were held, which played an important role in promoting our school's first-class construction and internationalization level.

 

At 3:00 PM on September 4, Professor Tan was invited to the Lecture Hall of Economic Management and gave a lecture themed “What's wrong with America? ---- Reflections on the changes of American society after the war from the perspective of system and economy”. The lecture was hosted by Professor Gong Yanping, dean of the Business School, with Professor You Daming, secretary of the party committee of the school, Professor Ren Shenggang, Professor Liu Yongmei, Professor Guan Jian, Professor Shen Chaohong and more than 100 graduate students attended this lecture.

 

Professor Tan mainly reflects on the social changes of post-war America from the perspective of system and economy. Starting from the election results of the United States, he systematically thought and summarized the political, economic, institutional and cultural roots of the recession and existing problems in the United States by combining his observation in the United States for over 20 years and his professional accomplishment in sociology and management. At last, the school faculty and students present consulted Professor Tan about the paper writing and got detailed answers from him.

 

On September 5, Professor Tan had an in-depth communication with Professor Gong Yanping, Professor Liu Yongmei, Professor Guan Jian and Professor Wei Ping on further promoting the first-class construction and internationalization level of our school. Subsequently, Professor Tan gave detailed guidance to the research results of related research teams in our school, and put forward strategically and highly operational suggestions.

 

Dr. Tan Jinsong is a tenured professor of Schulich School of Business, University of York, Canada, and Newmont Strategic Chair Professor. He was also a specially invited or visiting professor of international and domestic famous universities. He has studied for a master's degree in economics, a PhD in sociology and a PhD in management in America with his main research areas of corporate strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship, and corporate social responsibility. He was the first mainland scholar to publish a paper on the Strategic Management Journal, and has published dozens of papers on Financial Times. As an editor of top magazines like Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Management Science, and Organization Science, as well as session chair of American Management Association Annual Conference. His research had been supported by the Natural Science Foundation of China, Ford Foundation of America, Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation of North America and Social Science Foundation of Canada. He had also served as a consultant on China affairs for U.S. senators and congressmen, as well as the World Bank and Canada International Development Agency, and had conducted strategic consulting and training for a number of multinational companies.
