The 14th Five-Year Plan Strategy Consultation Meeting of Business School of Central South University(CSU) was held on October 16, 2021. The meeting invited 9 experts from academic field and industry to form a Strategic Advisory Group to advise the development strategy through a combination of online and offline methods. The advisory experts include(in alphabetical order by last name): Academician Chen Xiaohong, Honorary Dean of the Business School of CSU; Professor Bai Changhong, Dean of Business School of Nankai University; Mr. Gu Jing, Chairman of Shenzhen Sail Group Co.; Professor Huang Wei, Dean of Business School of Southern University of Science and Technology; Professor Li Yijun, Dean of Management School of Harbin Institute of Technology; Professor Mao Jiye, Dean of Business School of Renmin University of China; Professor Tan Yuejin, Dean of School of Information Systems and Management of National University of Defense Technology; Professor Tang Yongjun, Director of Finance Department of Economics and Business Administration School of the University of Hong Kong; Mr. Zou Gang, Chief Economist of American Investment Bank, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of CSU, Investor of Jiangwan Group. School stakeholders also participated in the meeting, including Professor Committee director, department directors, branch secretaries and directors of administrative departments.
Gong Yanping, Dean of the School, made a report on the School's 14th Five-Year Plan, which comprehensively reviewed the achievements during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, analyzed the opportunities and challenges the School will face in its development, and reported the plan from three aspects based on the School's mission, vision and values: overall strategy, main tasks and implementation guarantee. She also elaborated ten important tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan.
After the report, the experts recognized the progress and achievements made by the School during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and the development concepts of the 14th Five-Year Plan. They put forward strategic suggestions that are guiding, scientific and forward-looking on the topics of talent cultivation, discipline development, characteristic refinement, base-platform construction and young faculty cultivation.
Prof. Bai Changhong proposed that the School’s personalized development should be strengthened, the basic problems should be sorted out again, and the judgment on these problems should be turned into key actions; Mr. Gu Jing talked about the appeal of outstanding graduates and the spatial expansion of talent cultivation outside the campus from the perspective of alumni, and believed that the combination of in-class theory and off-campus practice should be emphasized to achieve the cultivation goal of business elites; Prof. Huang Wei emphasized the importance of characteristics refinement and the talent team construction, suggested that the School could learn from the development mode of some domestic and overseas universities that are not limited to the local area, and make use of the talent advantages of the surrounding cities to strengthen integration; Prof. Li Yijun pointed out that the leading role of the National Basic Sciences Center should be highlighted, and the interdisciplinary integration should be strengthened; Prof. Mao Jiye suggested that the accreditation of AACSB is mission-driven, and it is worth considering how to reflect the “integrating scientific essence” of the mission in the cultivation of talents and the construction of faculty team; Prof. Tan Yuejin pointed out that the strategic role of leading discipline and platform should be highlighted, and the School should take the initiative to jointly lead the interdisciplinary development, and emphasized the importance of cultivating the undergraduate talents’ characteristics; Prof. Tang Yongjun talked about the strategies related to the recruitment and cultivation of faculty and the influence of research results in the context of the development of his own school; Mr. Zou Gang suggested that talent cultivation should be integrated with industry and education, and we can form characteristics through innovation and entrepreneurship education in industrial fields.
At the end of the meeting, Academician Chen Xiaohong raised higher expectations for the development orientation of the School, pointed out that the School should align with the first-class school, focus on the development of new technologies, industries and modes, integrate other disciplines with the leading discipline of Management Science and Engineering, serve the national strategy and drive the development of discipline groups through platform construction and synergy between industries, universities and scientific institutions. She also emphasized the importance of reform and innovation in cultivation content and mode to build a high-level talent cultivation system.
Ren Shenggang, Secretary of the Party Committee in the School, said that the School will fully absorb the insights of the experts, scientifically grasp the direction of the School's development, reasonably determine the goals, and put the development tasks into practice to promote the efficient development and pursuit of excellence with international influence.
