摘 要：
Using data collected from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, we delineate regulatory sanctions on financial analysts and empirically investigate their deterrent effect. Despite modest fines and short suspensions, sanctioned analysts face poorer career prospects. Our difference-in-differences analyses show a lower probability of analyst misconduct after a colleague in the same brokerage house is sanctioned. The deterrent effect is stronger when the sanctioned analyst is more centrally located in the professional network, when the analyst has a closer working relationship with the focal analyst, and when the sanction leads to dimmer career prospects. There is no evidence that investors fully understand the deterrence effect, as colleagues of the sanctioned analyst experience weaker market reactions to their earnings forecasts and worse career outcomes.

张怀，新加坡南洋理工大学会计学教授(终身教职)，闽江学者讲座教授(2015)，北美华人会计教授协会前任会长。先后在Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Finance, Management Science, Contemporary Accounting Research 以及Review of Accounting Studies 等 UTD 24 及 FT 50 顶级商业学术期刊上发表13 篇文章。于2011、2013 和 2019 年三次获得 Nanyang Business School Research Excellence Award。张教授现任 Accounting Horizons及The International Journal of Accounting 主编，China Accounting and Finance Review 副主编，Contemporary Accounting Research，Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Review of Accounting and Finance 编委会成员。曾在多个国际学术研讨会上发表主题演讲。
